Voices of Success
A Fresh Start
Name: Katrina Key
Center: Camden County Community Services
“I enjoy my career and am thankful for all of the opportunities Coastal Georgia Community Action has given to me."
Ms. Key moved to Jacksonville, Florida from Newnan, Georgia for a job that she was counting on to provide a better life for her 17 year old son. Unfortunately, after uprooting her son and moving to a new city, the job opportunity fell through leaving her jobless and her family homeless. While in Jacksonville the family was living in unsafe hotels until someone suggested that she start fresh and move to Camden County. New to the area and unemployed, the family was once again living from hotel room to hotel room. The family stayed in hotels for as long as possible but due to the exorbitant costs of hotels,Ms. Key and her son were once again homeless and this time were sleeping in their Ford Focus. In dire need, Ms. Key was referred to Community Action in August 2018. With the help of Community Action and hard work, Ms. Key was able to secure safe housing and enroll her son in school, and began diligently searching for employment. Ms. Key's diligence paid off and she was able to gain employment.
