Turning can nots into cans and dreams into plans

“I hope my two sons will see they can turn their can nots into cans and their dreams into plans."
Ms. Hart, Coastal Georgia Community Action Head Start parent, began her story with the agency in 2017 when her son was enrolled at the McIntosh County Head Start. During the re-enrollment process, Ms. Hart shared with her Family Service Worker that she is an employed stay at home mom but would like a better life for her two sons and herself. After expressing her desire to work with children from the ages of 6 weeks to five years old, the Family Service Worker encouraged her to attend the local Child Development Associate (CDA) class which was being offered by Coastal Georgia Community Action.Ms. Hart expressed that limited finances were the barrier to her returning to school. Through the agency's holistic approach, Coastal Georgia Community Action implemented an in-house CDA class to assist low income families with establishing linkages to obtain self-sufficiency. Ms. Hart enrolled in the CDA class in June 2018 and graduated in December 2018. Ms. Hart plans to work full time at at child care establishment and one day fulfill her dream of owning her own child care establishment.
