Voices of Success
Dedication Reaps a Harvest
by Tisha Rowell, Family Service Worker

Name: Idrys Borges
Center: Camden County Head Start
In January 2013, Ms. Borges’ oldest son Marcus was enrolled in our Camden County Head Start program. Ms. Borges became a dedicated volunteer at the center. After several months of volunteering on a daily basis, Ms. Borges was encouraged to apply for a vacant substitute teacher position. She was hired and so begins the legend of “Ms. B”.
This year, through the agency’s holistic approach, Ms. B has been afforded an opportunity to complete coursework toward attainment of a Child Development Associate. Coastal Georgia Community Action implemented an In-house Child Development Associates (CDA) class to assist low income families with establishing linkages to obtain self-sufficiency. Completion of the CDA course would position Ms. B to eligible for full-time employment with Coastal Georgia Community Action or any other Child Care establishment.
